Dr. Narendra Jadhav

Entering in the shoes of Dr. Manmohan Singh & Mr. Montek singh Ahluwalia, Dr. Narendra Jadhav is the next generation great economist & hails from our very own Maharashtra. He is currently member of planning commission of India as well as National Advisory Council of India.

Background: Born on 28th May 1953 as youngest child among six to Sonabai & Damodar Jadhav, cabinman in Mumbai suburb railway & grown-up living in railway colony.
Education: Schooling from Chhabildas highschool Dadar, BSc in Statistics from Ruia college, MA in Economics from Mumbai University in 1975.

He completed PhD in Economics from Indiana University, USA in 1986. He was honoured with theBest International Student Award’ by Indiana University, USA in 1983.

Turning point in Jadhav family: His father decided to shift his children to Chhabildas School, Dadar from Port Trust School, Wadala.

Turning point in educational life: He went to Mussorie to meet his elder brother Janardhan, an IAS officer under training. There, he read book “Poverty in India” & decided to study economics giving up science.

Professional career:
1974 to 77 - Started career with state bank of India as Grade-I officer.
1978 to 2008 – Worked for 31 years with Reserve bank of India in various positions, before taking voluntary retirement in October 2008, from the position of Principal Adviser and Chief Economist in the rank of Executive Director.
August 1981-1986 - Deputed to USA jointly by the Reserve Bank of India and the
Government of India as a National Scholar for PhD.

In 1988, he was deputed to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as the sole representative of the Reserve Bank of India and the Government of India.
In 1988-89 – Deputed as Special Adviser to the Governor, National Bank of Ethiopia.

In 2006, he worked as Chief Economic Counsellor for Afghanistan Bank, Kabul.
August 2006 to June 2009, he served as the Vice Chancellor of Pune University.
Since June 2009, he is the member of Planning commission of India.
Since May 2010, he is also the member of National Advisory Council of India.
Spouse & children: Married to Vasundhara Jadhav & blessed with son Tanmay & daughter Apoorva.

Author: Among his several books, ‘Aamcha baap aan Amhi’ is the story of life journey from his grandmother to his next generation.

This dalit Icon from the Mumbai slum is the true inspiration for the under privileged youth; who aspire to break various glass ceilings in the upper dome of the financial, academic and literary communities in the national as well as international arena.
