Achyut Godbole

Behind big smile on the face lies a multifaceted engineer; who has immense knowledge & keen interests in diversified fields like software, literature, management, economics, music, nano-technology, psychology etc.

After leading software companies for 2 decades, Achyut Godbole is now well known for his famous books on above subjects of his interests.

Being parents of autistic son Nihar, he along with wife Shobha also contribute to ‘Ashiana’ - a school in Mumbai for mentally challenged children.

Background: Born in the middle class family of Lecturer at Solapur on 15^th August 1950.

Education: Schooling (marathi medium) upto 12^th in Solapur, ranked 16^th in SSC board, graduation in Chemical engineering from IIT, Mumbai.

Spouse & child: Married to Shobhana Agashe (fine art student of J. J. School of art) of Mumbai on 9^th May 1973. Couple blessed with daughter who didn’t survive, followed by son Nihar.

Profession:

-      After graduation, Achyut Godbole refused campus placements from ACC & L&T to work as a socialist for Bhil Adivasis in the tribal area of Shahada Taluka, Dhulia District, during which he also went to jail for 10 days as an activist.

-      Returned back to Mumbai within a year & joined plastic workshop as night shift supervisor for few weeks.

-      Worked with Tata mill as computer programmer without knowing anything about it for 1.5 years.

-      Worked with IBM as programmer for 3.5 years.

-      Worked with Shipping Corporation as system analyst for 1+ year.

-      Worked with Hindustan lever as Manager for 4 years.

-      Worked with Systime as Area software manager.

-      Worked with Patni as Software division head for 11 years, growing strength of 20 to 1000.

-      Worked with Syntel as Managing director for 4 years, growing strength of 30 to 1000.

-      Worked with L&T Infotech CEO for 4 years, growing strength of 400 to 2000.

-      Worked with Apar technologies as CEO for 1.5 years, growing strength of 20 to 600.

-      Worked with Disha technologies as Executive director for 1 year, growing strength of 200 to 450.

-      Working as Managing Director of ‘Softexcel Consultancy Services'.

This self taught software professional has overall experience of 34 years in software industry. But, surprisingly he does not have any formal education in software field.

Turning point in life: After knowing about the autisticism of son Nihar, Achyut Godbole suddenly became serious about his not-so-well-going career in software industry, with a thrust to earn a better future for his son Nihar. And he eat, drink & sleep computers in life ahead, shouldering higher management cadre responsibilities in various well-known organisations.

Achyut Godbole is now living a joyfull life, inspite of facing lots of difficulties in early years of career, which he overcome with determination. Like his entry into software field is not planned, he lived a life as it came in front basis, giving justice to his interests & likings at various stages of life in best possible way.
