Rebel – this word defines Shobha De in true sense. This model in teens, turned journalist in young age is now a novelist & columnist for various magazines & newspapers in the country. Also, she is the author of many popular books to her credit.
Background: Born on 7th January, 1948 as 4th child to Magistrate Mr. Govind & Shakuntala Rajadhyaksha.
Education: Schooling from Queens Mary high school, Mumbai. During school days, she was well known athlete & also represented Maharashtra in basketball & hockey in national championships. She somehow graduated in psychology in 2nd class from Saint Xavier college, Mumbai.
In 1970, she accidently joined ad-agency named ‘Creative unit’ as trainee copy writer to fill-in a place of friend going on pregnancy leave.
In 1971, she started working as a founder editor of new ‘Stardust’ magazine produced by Nari Hira.
In 1980, she started working as editor for new magazine named ‘Society’ for Nari Hira.
In 1981, she launched her own magazine named ‘Celebrity’, resigning her job with Nari Hira. But, she had to close it within 3 years due to it’s poor sale.
There on, she started writing for various magazines, newspapers as a freelancer, along with writing her own books.
Marriage & children:
First married to Sudhir Kilachand & couple is blessed with 2 children Aditya & Avantika.
In second marriage, she tied the knot with widower Dilip De & couple is blessed with 2 daughters Arundhati & Anandita.
She also parented 2 children Randeep & Radhika from 1st marriage of Dilip De. In a way, she is the supermom of 6 children.
This bold & beautifull superwoman represents glamour world of 70’s & celebrity journalism of 80’s. She has lived life in her own a way, breaking all the conventional rules & traditions that exists around in the society. She has taken bold decisions in life, accepting their consequences on her own during even & odds of life.
She has created her own identity as successful writer & is very much popular among the youngsters. She is very often invited to conferences, meetings & talk shows on woman liberalisation nationally & internationally for her bold & open minded comments straight from heart.
