Are you surprised of title of this post? Well, you don’t need to be, because it’s the hidden fact of modern farming from the rural area of maharashtra.
This polyhouse is proudly owned by Mr. Ganpatrao Patil of Kondigre village in Shirol tahsil near Jaysingpur, of Kolhapur district.
Although, Mr. Patil has chosen farming as a profession long back in seventies, he was very certain to do it in modern way. In the year 1998, he initially built greenhouse in 4 acres of land & cultivated gerbera flowers, carnetion & capsicum. Latter, he continued the experimentation with wide variety of options like roses, orchid etc.
Now, polyhouse named as ‘Shrivardhan biotech’ is expanded in 101 acres of land, producing 25 to 30 thousands of roses, 80 thousands of gerberas daily, which are exported to Japan, Greece, Italy, Australia, Holland etc. Shrivardhan Biotech has been awarded for being the ‘Biggest flower producer & exporter in India’. The overall turnover of this ambitious project is around 60 crores.
Mr. Patil manages his Polyhouse by supplying water, pesticides sprinkling & fertilisers feeding through computer-controlled system.
He has built 4000 sq. feet of cold storage, wherein 3 to 4 lakhs of flowers can be stored. For systematic quality grading of flowers before packing, 6000 sq. feet of air-conditioned packing hall is built.
After packaging the flowers under 2 to 5° temperature, those are dispatched through air-conditioned Lorries to Mumbai airport.
Through this Polyhouse project, Mr. Patil has offered the employment to thousands of local villagers. He has plans of opening ‘Polyhouse research centre’ to guide & share his knowledge & experience with youngsters of next generation.
This case study of modern farming is surely worth inspiring for the educated youngsters, who are keen on taking modern farming as profession sincerely.
